You're not just a number, it's a lot about personal development and carving your own path when you realise what your strengths may be. You're surrounded by people that want to support each other and the company itself has good values. I have a child and a few of my colleagues have other responsibilities like university and family and Octopus have always been pretty flexible when it comes to our needs around those things. There is no expectation that you know everything when you walk in as a lot of us didn't have any experience in the energy industry. As a whole it's an employer that actually cares about the people working for them.

It's not always clear in terms of 'climbing' as in it's not just a straight forward climb to management, which has not been a bad thing for me as I took more of an interest in a different aspect of the company but I know for some who would be looking for that sort of structure it might not work. As with most start up companies it can be very fast paced in terms of growth which means there are going to be occasions where there is a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it, however this is a pretty normal occurrence in any job.
