Incredibly political environment, in which politically inspired people flourish - being succesful at Oracle seems to go hand in hand with siding with the 'powers that be' Demand for creative input seems more like a front - hence the numerous of Oracle spin-offs which originally pitched to senior management, left Oracle and were succesful outside (e.g. Business Objects, SalesForce, BEA WebLogic, PeopleSoft, ...) - some of which were later reacquired by Oracle Focus on the cash-cow, which are the customers using the database - if you are not in the core DB teams, you may have little effect on the course of action.
