Vantaggi

I joined Cerner in March 2022 and left in June 2023 so technically I got to work for a little over 1 year. After having worked in healthcare domain from the beginning of career, it was a big opportunity for me to work in a product based MNC with specilization in healthcare IT. Let me jot down few pros before I write cons: 1. Big product based multinational healthcare IT company now bigger after being acquired by Oracle. 2. A good company for freshers to start. 3. Good pay master. CTC is as per the market standard as I have observed. 4. Too many products and solutions to work on provided you get the right opportunity. 5. Work from home until my LWD. Not sure about the present situation. 6. Team members (some) are helpful, supportive, and friendly. I cannot highlight any other good point if there were any before Covid era.

Svantaggi

Now, lets talk about some bad stuff. I joined the company hoping to get to work on the latest healthcare solutions wherein I would get to exploit my domain knowledge and learn more in the healthcare space however, the reality was different altogether. I was put in a project which was full of technical currency and other irrelevant stuff, legacy applications, nothing to learn on the core healthcare concepts like HL7, FHIR, Interoperability, Enrollment, Clinical Workflows etc. To make the matters worse, I got to work with an arrogant and unprofessional engineering manager (Prakash Vasudevmurthy) who became the sole reason of my resignation among other things. He seemed to have some problem with me because of my working style and I am not being a yesman to his words. I raised the issue to my reporting manager and his manager but things were wrapped under the carpet. Even after my departure I wrote an email to India leadership, US leadership, and India ethics helpline sharing my feedback. So, here are the cons solely based on my personal experience and observations: 1. Despite of being a product based company, India arm of Cerner Inc. is treated like a step sibling in terms of quality of work. Most of the actual IT work, enhancement or new work is done by the US teams. They send mediocre maintenance work to India teams. 2. India setup works as an extension of US office with major crucial decision making lying in the hands of US management. 3. Cerner work culture getting drastically changed after acquisition by Oracle which is evidently more painful than joyful. 4. The hands of India leadership are evidently tied. They are reduced to order and instructions takers from their US bossess. 5. I along with other new associates were due for first appraisal after joining but the Oracle management said NO to appraisal and promotions in the name of cost cutting. Technically, Cerner India associates are still eligible for Cerner's existing HR policies until LEC is done yet they are subject to Oracle's HR policies and diktats. Cerner India leadership has got nothing to say. Period. 6. No additional monetary or other benefits except some traditional benefits which have been part of employee benefits package. 7. Cerner being an MNC surprisingly does not have any office or campus in Delhi NCR which is one of the biggest turn-offs for me. Associated from North India are forced to relocate to Bangalore or Kolkata if they wish to work for Cerner. I have felt that the company management is reluctant to open an office in Delhi NCR in the name of budget constraint. On the contrary, if they open one it will be a win-win deal for both the company and prospective employees from Northern part of the nation. In North, hardly anyone knows about Cerner. This was very much disappointing for me. 8. Despite of flat culture, managers seems to have high-handedness over their team members in India. This was a driving reason behind my departure as stated above. 9. Being a healthcare IT/engineering organization, engineering folks such as engineering managers, leads, architects have great influence on product management people. In my case, our EM would lead almost all the product management meetings which I would expect from my RM (Sr. Manager-Product Management) to lead and drive but that was not the case at all. I would find my RM missing in POs meeting driven by the EM. Because of this my RM was ignorant of the many things and issues at the team level. 11. Cerner India and its associates are in a limbo these days after acquisition by Oracle. Employee morale is at all time low. 12. The recent layoff in the US before my deaprture only made things worse. Many highly tenured associates were shown the door. This caused apprehensions in India associates too. 13. The business HR partner and AR partner tagged to each associate are just for the namesake. In my 1 year stint, they have never met me, nor even after resignation or during the notice period. The HR people are just enjoying their positions in silos. I felt they dont bother to establish a personal connect with associates in their span.

Vantaggi
