Vantaggi

Entertainment is never far away whether it’s watching the CEO take the lift for a single flight of stairs or the rare spectacle of him actually attempting the staircase when the lift is out of order. The coffee isn’t bad either, which, given everything else, is probably the highlight of the day.

Svantaggi

I actually enjoy watching the CEO’s lift journeys, but sadly they’re always between the 1st and 2nd floor, a perfect metaphor for the company itself, which never seems to be going anywhere meaningful. Business progression is stuck, communication is surface-level at best, The CEO prefers to blame everyone who has already left for his woes rather than take any responsibility himself. Add in the constant rumours about unpaid bills, outstanding debts, and a recent HMRC visit, and it’s hard to see how this place has a future. As a colleague once put it, the whole thing has “gone down like a fart in a lift.”

Svantaggi

Sadly, my time with this organization fell short of expectations. While I had hoped for a collaborative and growth-oriented environment, I often found the culture to be influenced by internal politics, favoritism, and an atmosphere of unhealthy competition. Genuine teamwork was difficult to foster under these conditions. There was also a noticeable lack of trust in employees, which manifested in intrusive monitoring and what often felt like constant spying on day-to-day activities. This not only eroded morale but created an environment of suspicion rather than support. Professional bullying was another troubling aspect, with some individuals using intimidation and undermining tactics that made the workplace feel hostile and unsafe for many. Such behavior further diminished any sense of camaraderie or respect within the team. There seemed to be a lack of accountability at senior levels, with major decisions frequently serving the interests of a select few rather than benefiting the wider team. This not only affected morale but also made many feel overlooked and undervalued. Although the official working hours were outlined in contracts, long hours were regularly expected without proper acknowledgment or consideration for work-life balance. Project timelines were often unrealistic, creating pressure and stress that could have been avoided with better planning and communication. While opportunities for professional development were often spoken about, they rarely materialized in a meaningful way. High turnover across various levels added to a sense of instability, and unfortunately, the focus seemed to lean more toward appearances and internal survival than on building strong teams or delivering truly impactful work.

Svantaggi

Having read Moby-Dick and understood the characteristics of Queequeg—the calm, loyal, and spiritually grounded harpooner after whom the company is named—I’d suggest a more honest name would be Ahab Renewables. The romantic notion of Queequeg reflects a man of integrity, respect, and quiet strength—someone who works with those around him and faces the sea with humility. Sadly, these values are not what you’ll find at the heart of this business. Instead, the company culture aligns far more closely with Captain Ahab: intense, erratic, and obsessed with chasing targets at all costs. Leadership decisions often feel reactionary and ego-driven, lacking transparency or meaningful collaboration. There’s a tendency to bulldoze forward, even when it undermines team morale or contradicts earlier strategic direction. Employees are frequently left picking up the pieces after impulsive shifts in priorities. For those early in their careers, there are learning opportunities to be found—mainly through exposure to chaos and the challenge of navigating uncertainty. But for professionals looking for stability, mutual respect, or a sense of shared purpose, this may not be the voyage you want to join. The company may have chosen Queequeg as a namesake, but its compass points firmly toward Ahab—and we all know how that story ends.
