-a lot changed when original founder/directors left, heads up that it pivoted from a research think tank to more of a comms shop and focused on getting as much media hits as possible -white director deliberately push out POC and disabled workers out of their roles and/or threatens them if they try to leave -high turnover, almost no one on the current staff except a couple directors and a couple junior members have stayed on for the long haul -micromanagement culture, almost an adversarial relationship between directors and junior staff especially during union contract negotiations (supposedly a progressive economic place but actions speak louder than words)

They can get good press for their work when they want to

Very self-centered senior staff that will postpone their deliverables to you indefinitely and gaslight you about how its your fault. In over a 25-year career, I've never been treated so poorly in a professional setting. Meetings cancelled at the last minute up to 3 times in the same week, usually without even giving an reason. Once, a dozen meetings that were scheduled came and went without a single bit of progress from the Groundwork staff. Not a single contractual deadline by Groundwork met when contractors met all theirs. Promises to publish your work that disappeared into thin air as soon as leadership got interested in some new issue, etc. Work was never published in the agreed-upon fashion and yet contractors who suggested working with other organizations to get the work out into the world were dissuaded (strongly) from taking their work elsewhere.
