Was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn. She assured me that the hiring manager wanted to talk to me, even though my background did not include the particular technology area. I insisted hiring manager look over my profile first, and his response was that I looked like a good fit, but was worried that I wasn't passionate enough (because I guess I was so concerned about not having a background in that tech). Still, recruiter set up a phone interview with hiring manager, nothing different than what is already reported here, though he seemed to be fishing for reasons not to proceed with me (like asking for things not on the req). He liked my answers, said they were reasonable or 'good answer'. All behaviorial and a bit about what I knew about the technology area (which was some, since I did prepare ahead of time). I think overall he was just convinced that no matter what I said, I wasn't going to be passionate about the work. I think that is unfair and wonder if I had been someone different if he would have been so picky about something he originally said didn't matter. It seemed more like the classic case of making up his mind before the interview and trying to find confirming evidence that his decision was correct.
Regardless, my advice to others is not to show any weakness whatsoever, even if you have doubts...no matter what they ask or how sincere they are about wanting to know your feelings or fears, don't say them. It would be better to go through the interviews and let them see your actual abilities rather than have them fault you for being cautious and concerned about fit from your perspective.

Domanda 1
The usual, a deep dive into my background, tell him about a product I developed, the issues with it, the people issues, etc. And of course, the usual what is my greatest weakness, etc.
Phone screen, 5 1 hour interviews for loop
Each hour was dedicated to 2 LPs. System design was more collaborative than i anticipated which was a pleasant surprise. The phone screen mostly focused on my previous experiences

The interview process is straightforward but intense.
First interview was with another Software Dev Manager in the same team. After that the famous loop interview where I had to take 5 interviews in a row over two days ( using paid holidays at work ). Recruiter gave a lot of information about possible questions and helped with materials. However, I had to use same stories few times as the different interviewers asked same questions few times.
Everything is okay, I had a good time during the interviews and it was a good exercise. However, I simply do not understand why they have to call to reject? I am not a customer to be obsessed with. A straight cut rejection via email works better than taking time out of my busy schedule.
If they used this time to share some feedback, that would be useful. If they do not share any reason why I have to continue formal small talk just to get the rejection on my face?

A time you were driving toward a goal and realized more than halfway in that it may not be the best goal.

Had 1 round of System design interview. I thought the interview went ok, if not bad, it went decently well. Received a rejection response, while asking to apply 6 months later.
