Applied online and a week later got a 30 minute phone interview. The next week I moved onto a written test. Basically they tested you on knowledge from their website on how to handle different situations. Two weeks after that I had a 2.5 hour in-person interview at their Denver office. A few days after the interview they came back for references. I had constant communication with the recruiter and when it seemed like I had got the job, a day later a random person emailed me a scripted response saying they went with another candidate. It was really strange because the whole process took about 5 weeks and to end on such an informal note did not seem like their goal of being "transparent".

Over 4 hours of interviewing- none of the questions were really payroll related. There were a couple of redundant ones but I thought there would be technical questions past what was asked. They were all scenario questions and drawn out to scenario based questions which is expected in interviews but I think it wasn’t the greatest set up. The team lead that interviewed me didn’t even have a background in payroll and had been with the company for 4 months.
My interviews we’re energetic and went very well—when I asked if they had any concerns about my skill set against the expectations of the role they said they had none at all. I thought I absolutely would be offered the position given how quickly the interviews were scheduled and their open verbal eagerness to move me forward. I asked my own set of hypothetical questions and it was easy to feel their mutual engagement. They used phrases that came off as future-inclusive “you’ll most likely start out as a higher tiered agent based on skills you’ve shared” or “you and your leadership will meet weekly to go over your goals and stats” or “you’ll have at least 30-60 minutes of admin time to work on your cases”. After the interviews were concluded I even sent an email thanking them for their time. The great reply I got? A very bland, vague rejection email saying I didn’t have the right skill set for the role I applied for.
What a whiplash experience for a company to provide. Take up over 5 hours out of your week, remain engaging and energetic all for it to end in an email saying you do t have the skills they’re looking for with a link to apply for one of their other positions.

How would you describe pay period types to clients and the differences between them?
Went through the ringer with this company. The final interview I sat with multiple team members in multiple departments. Felt like I was qualified for the position, ended up not receiving an offer.

What was a situation where you had to deal with an angry customer? What was the outcome?
The interview process was standard, and somewhat long, but overall pleasant. The company does a good job of thoroughly reviewing applicants with standard questions. There are multiple rounds with multiple team members.
