Ask yourself one question before working here: " are you the smartest person in the room?" If you confidently feel that way, then you will do well at Amazon. It is an environment for those of you who confidently feel like they are always right. There is little room for folks who question themselves. You will be gobbled up if you hesitate. You will soar to great heights if you are confident that your strategy is the correct path and you have the tenacity to fight off other strategies. You're on your own at Amazon. I was told by my boss, "if you see someone drowning, swim away from them so that they don't pull you under as well." Nice people exist at Amazon, but they are more of the exception to the rule and the rest of the folks don't pick up on the void of social cohesion (because they are not the type of folks who need that in life). They are working on having happy hours and team building events, but it really is the selection bias for who is attracted to Amazon and more importantly who feels comfortable with staying at Amazon.
