Your career at Amazon is what you make it. It could be the job that makes your career and financial future, or it could be a miserable experience if you don't actively try to seek out what you want. Meaning, your promotion is in your hands- you have to initiate the next step in your career and then managers will support that happening, but it won't fall into your lap unless you seek it out. It can be pretty easy in the EHS sector of Amazon to become a regional manager compared to other huge companies in America. The value in that is when you take that title externally to a different company.

Most of the opportunities people find promoting internally are through relocating. If you're not open to that, your success may be limited or significantly delayed. This is only a con for some, mostly those with families. Compensation included stock and the value of your currently held stock portfolio, so there may be times when you don't get the raise in base pay you should just because of the valuation of your shares. That is messed up and makes people feel trapped in their job until their shares vest.
