Happy International Women in Engineering Day! Ying Cen Tee started her career with Hitachi Rail as a Graduate Engineer in 2018. Since, she has worked on various projects at our Newton Aycliffe factory, Pistoia plant and Ashford depot. Her work contributes to the development of our trains so that they become more and more sustainable, comfortable and efficient. Throughout June 2023, as part of our work towards inclusivity, we have been sharing a number of 'Inclusive Glossary' posts on our internal comms channel. This initiative is designed to help raise awareness and understanding of some of the terms and acronyms we may hear associated with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Today is World Environment Day 2023 and the focus this year is #beatplasticpollution. Every year around 400 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced and studies estimate that there is already 75 to 199 million tonnes of plastic in oceans across the globe. At Hitachi Rail, we are contributing to #beatplasticpollution across the globe. We're focussing on the environmental design of our products. For example, we've introduced the use of more sustainable construction materials for installing the Cross River Rail Projects ETCS rail signalling system in Brisbane, Australia. TufDuct is a material made from 100% post-consumer plastic waste and approximately 27m of TufDuct cable troughs were installed for the project. Any waste from the installation could be reused or fully recycled. Innovative sustainable mobility is at the heart of our business and we believe that we have an obligation to inspire and build a better and more sustainable future for cities and customers across the globe.

We are pleased to welcome Giuseppe Marino as the new Group CEO of Hitachi Rail, based in our London HQ. Mr Marino's leadership comes at a pivotal time as we embark on an exciting new chapter, delivering innovative digital technologies and sustainable transport solutions worldwide. As we pursue Hitachi's 2024 Mid-Term Management Plan, Mr Marino will guide our expansion in North America, APAC, and EMEA, building on the strong foundation laid by our previous Group CEO, Andrew Barr. Mr Barr will now serve as President of Hitachi Europe, overseeing regional strategies for EMEA. A significant part of building a healthier culture of masculinity is through role modelling. In the workplace, that means being a vocal advocate for equity and inclusion. As men, having the courage to face our peers regardless of their position in the organization is one of the toughest challenges we all must face to build inclusive cultures - Ludo Gabriele. IWD celebrations continued at Hitachi Rail! On March 22nd, Hitachi Rail collaborated with Hitachi Astemo and Catalyst to host our first internal webinar on sexism and how to stop it in the workplace. During the one-hour session, Ludo Gabriele, Senior Director of Product Content Strategy at Catalyst, gave insights based on @MARCByCatalyst studies and outlined practical steps to make the connections between gender conditioning, masculine norms, and sexism in the workplace. The session was well attended by our colleagues from all over the world and a recording is also being made available in regional languages for those who could not attend the live session.
We had a successful Open House event in our Hitachi Rail office in Pittsburgh on the 16th of Feb, 2023! An Early Careers initiative from Hitachi Rail - we invited graduates from various universities to visit and tour our Research Labs, learn about career opportunities and talk to our leaders. Enthusiastic students walked in and were eager to discuss career options in the rail industry. Our brilliant team were keen to meet all attendees and answer their questions.
